The USS "Weehawken" (YTB-776), a
US Navy large harbor tug, was laid down in August 1964 atMarinette, Wisconsin , by theMarinette Marine Corp.; launched on8 June 1965 ; delivered to the9th Naval District in July 1965; and placed in service in the14th Naval District during November 1965.Service in the Hawaiian Islands
USS "Weehawken" spent part of her US Navy career serving the 14th Naval District which comprises the
Hawaiian Islands and surrounding smaller islets. She also served on the island of Guam. She has conducted routine towing operations between those islands and has rendered assistance to ships entering and clearingPearl Harbor . As of December 1979, she was still active in the 14th Naval District.Deactivation
USS "Weehawken" was disposed of in support of a Fleet training exercise on
24 April 2003 after thirty seven and a half years of service with the US Navy.References
