Stephen T. Hopkins

Stephen Tyng Hopkins (March 25, 1849March 31, 1892) was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in New York City, Hopkins attended the Anthon Grammar School in New York City.He was an iron merchant and broker.He moved to Catskill, New York.He served as member of the State assembly in 1885 and 1886.He was connected with several coal and iron syndicates in West Virginia and Tennessee.

Hopkins was elected as a Republican to the Fiftieth Congress (March 4, 1887-March 3, 1889).He was Watchman in the customhouse in New York City from April 9 to August 15, 1890, when he resigned.He was found dead by a train crew alongside the railroad tracks near Pleasantville, adjacent to Atlantic City, New Jersey, March 3, 1892.He was interred in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York.
