The Maastricht Graduate School of Governance was founded in September 2004 by the University Board of the Maastricht University, in light of the growing needs for specialists in public policy analysis.The School combines the academic resources of the faculties of Maastricht University and those of several foreign partners in order to guarantee multi-disciplinary top-academic training.

Opening of the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance

The Maastricht Graduate School of Governance was officially opened on the 1st of October 2005. Connected to the opening a conference [ [http://www.unimaas.nl/default.asp?id=C62214CGV2526I5N3656&template=overig/pers_detail.htm&pid=375&jaar=2005&red=1 Persberichten - Pers - Universiteit Maastricht ] ] was organized which commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Yalta conference. At this wartime conference in 1945 British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Soviet premier Joseph Stalin decided on the future of Europe. At the conference in 2005 the grandsons of these three world leaders looked back on the legacy of their grandfathers and discussed with students, politicians and European leaders on the future of Europe.

The following Master programs are offered by the School of Governance:
* Master of Science in Public Policy and Human Development (MPP)
* Master of Science in Social Policy Financing and Social Policy Design (SPF/SPD)

The following PhD programs are offered by the School of Governance
* European Programme in Social Protection Policy (ESPP)
* Governance and Policy Analysis (GaPA)
* Governance and Policy Analysis Dual Career (GPAC2)

Two PhD programs are offered in cooperation with UNU-MERIT:
* Economics and Policy Studies of Technical Change (EPTC)
* Innovation Studies and Development (UNU-Merit)

New students, for both the Master and the PhD track, have the chance to work off deficiencies during online summer courses, in the summer of 2007 offered were (in cooperation with the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration):
* Economics
* Statistics
* Mathematics
