The phrase "clear blue water" in this case comes from the world of politics. It describes the ideological divide between two political parties.
The strip focuses on Eve Merriwether-Torres and her husband, Manny Torres, and their daily discussions and encounters of religion, politics, sex, and bizarre pop culture in their home state of Florida. One notable recurring storyline involves their son Seth, who is autistic. Eve and Manny's other children are Ivy, Owen, and twins Iris and Maizy.
The comic occasionally delves into self-reference, such as strips in which the characters discuss renegotiating their contracts in order to be drawn more attractively.
It was carried by the Universal Press Syndicate from May 3, 2004[1] until September 28, 2008.[2] On October 17, 2008, the strip re-appeared at the author's own web site, http://karenmontaguereyes.com/.
