- Diyâr-ı Bekr Province, Ottoman Empire
The province of Diyarbekir ("Eyâlet-i Diyarbekir") was established by the Ottoman Empire following the suppression of Bedirhan Bey's revolt in 1847. The area of the province (or "vilâyet") was populated mostly by ethnic KurdsFacts|date=September 2007. In the 1860s, the provincial setup was altered and by 1867, its name had changed to Diyârbekir Province. After the establishment of Republic of Turkey in 1923, the region was incorporated into the newly created state.
