Apalachicola and Alabama Railroad

The Apalachicola and Alabama Railroad Company was incorporated under Florida state law chapter 3651, approved February 10, 1885, for the purpose of constructing a line of railroad from the City of Apalachicola, in the county of Franklin, and thence on the most direct practical route through the counties of Calhoun and Jackson, crossing the Pensacola and Atlantic Railroad at some point in the county of Jackson and running thence northerly to the Alabama line, about 110 miles.

Land grants

The railroad was promised land grants along its line if it began construction within two years; no land grants would be given for sections completed after five years.

The company was owned by Jason F. McClellan, J. N. Coombs, H. L. Grady, John H. McClellan, W. T. Orman, M. T. Alexander, J. G. Ruge, Joseph A. Atkins, J. E. Grady, Jacinto V. Peirara, G. H. Ruge, J. N. Richards, Frank Philips, W. H. Milton and Jason B. Stone.
