Johan Thevelein

Johan Thevelein is a Belgian molecular biologist and professor at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Leuven, Belgium). He is head of the "VIB Department of Molecular Microbiology, K.U.Leuven".

Johan Thevelein obtained a PhD from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in 1981. He did a Postdoc at Yale University in Connecticut USA from 1982 until 1983, and he is Scientific Director of the VIB Department of Molecular Microbiology since 2002.

His research interest is on the molecular genetics and biochemistry of nutrient-sensing and -signaling in Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast) [Van Nuland A, Vandormael P, Donaton M, Alenquer M, Lourenco A, Quintino E, Versele M, Thevelein JM, Ammonium permease-based sensing mechanism for rapid ammonium activation of the protein kinase A pathway in yeast, Mol Microbiol 1485-1505, 2006] .
