The Dubai Sports City is a $4 billion, 50,000,000 square feet (4,600,000 m2) mixed-use sports city[1] currently being constructed in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The city will consist of apartment buildings as well as several sports facilities. The first structures opened in late 2007. Many people believed it was going to be used in Dubai's possible bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics, but Dubai never submitted a bid.

Dubai Properties is master developer of this project for infrastructure. The project is expected to be complete in 2011.

Sports Venues

Dubai Sports City will contain the following sporting complexes:

  • The main sports structure will be the 60,000 seat, multi-purpose outdoor stadium. This stadium will be used for athletics, cricket and football.
  • A 25,000 seat cricket ground
  • A 10,000 seat indoor arena
  • A 5,000 seat field hockey stadium. The stadium will provide a base to the UAE Hockey Committee and the WorldHockey Academy. The Hockey Stadium is situated at the Dubai Sports City Academy's Campus and provides world-class facilities for international athletes and local enthusiasts. The WorldHockey Academy is the first facility of its kind anywhere in the world. Through a partnership between Dubai Sports City and the International Hockey Federation, the WorldHockey Academy will provide coaching at the highest professional level from seasoned hockey coaches, many of whom have represented their countries in the international arena.[1]

Academy facilities comprising:

  • The first purpose-built Manchester United Soccer Schools facility anywhere in the world and “Socatots’, the world's first soccer specific pre-school development program for children from six months to school age both of which will be offered at the Dubai Sports City Football Academy
  • International Cricket Council Global Cricket Academy, the first of its kind in the world
  • World Hockey Academy, the first of its kind in the world in partnership with the International Hockey Federation
  • Butch Harmon School of Golf
  • David Lloyd Tennis Academy
  • Academies for rugby, swimming and athletics
  • The Academies will also boast a state-of-the-art high performance gymnasium, world class sports science and rehabilitation facilities as well as a full sports medical clinic. This facility will also house the main medical facility for the whole of Dubai Sports City including a 24 hour emergency medical clinic
