Irichelle Duran

Irichelle Duran

Irichelle Duran (born November 20, 1977) is a female boxer from Panama. She is the daughter of former 4 division men's boxing world champion Roberto Duran.

Irichelle Duran led a rich girl's life as a small child. She used to live in a mansion, where her father even had a collection of exotic birds.

In 1999, she announced her intentions to become a professional boxer, joining the likes of Laila Ali, Freeda Foreman, Jackie Frazier-Lyde and a small number of other daughters of former male boxing world champions who gave women's boxing a try.

Her interest in becoming a fighter was met with disappointment by her father. Roberto Duran claimed that he boxed so that his children wouldn't have to, and he made it of public knowledge that he did not want his daughter to fight, but that if she decided to go on, he would attend her fights.

Irichelle Duran lives in Miami, Florida. She is a boxing writer and journalist. Her work can be seen on NotiFight.com and HBO Latino. Irichelle Duran is engage to Dr. Antonio Gonzalez, a well known boxing manager.

Her professional debut came on August 4, 2000, when she lost a four round split decision to Geraldine Iglesias.

Her first, and so far only, win came on October 5, 2000, when she knocked out Marylin Hernandez in three rounds, at the same Panama City gym that was named after her father.

After that, she took a two year layoff, but, on May 22, 2002, she returned, to lose a four round decision to Angie Bordelon, at Westwego, Louisiana.

Although she hasn't officially announced her retirement from professional boxing, that was her last fight to date. It shall be noted, however, that in women's boxing, it's harder to get fights, because the number of female boxing competitors is much smaller when compared to male boxers.

Irichelle Duran has a record of 1 win and 2 losses, with 1 knockout.
