Republic Square (Armenia)

The Hanrapetutyan Hraparak (Republic Square) is the big central town square in Yerevan, Armenia. It is intersected by Amiryan Street, Abovian Street, Nalbandian Street, and Tigran Mets Street.

The square has a stone pattern in the center, meant to look like a traditional Armenian rug from above. The square has a large fountain in front of the National Art Gallery and History Museum, it has the Marriott Hotel, the Foreign Ministry, a post office and other establishments around it.

This is the center of Yerevan, where ceremonies and meetings are held and through which processions pass on highdays and holidays. The statue of Lenin used to be located in here, but when Armenia regained its independence, it was brought down and replaced with a big TV monitor in its place.
