Atanas Badev (Cyrillic: Атанас Бадев) (b.
Prilep , present dayRepublic of Macedonia , 1860, d.Sofia ,Bulgaria , 1908) was a composer and music teacher. He is considered ethnic Macedonian in theRepublic of Macedonia [http://www.manu.edu.mk/roots.htm MASA] and Bulgarian [Nikolov, Toma "Memories from my past", childhood] inBulgaria . He studied music inMoscow andSt. Petersburg and was taught by, to mention a few, the great Russian composersBalakirev andRimsky-Korsakov . Apart from his choral adaptations of folk and children's songs, Badev is also the composer of "The Liturgy of St.John Chrysostom " (first published inLeipzig in 1898), one of the most significant works of this genre from the end of the 19th century.References
