Academics

Cape Elizabeth High School students average the highest SAT scoresFact|date=May 2007;, the state's standardized test choice, in the state of Maine. Last Year 100% of students took the SAT in accordance with Maine Law, which requires at least 95% of students in each junior class to take the test in order to meet the standards set up by the No Child Left Behind Act.

The school requires all students take at least 4 years of English, 3 years of Math courses, 3 years of Science courses, 2 1/2 year of history courses, 1/2 year of government courses, 1 year of technology courses, 1 year of art courses, 1 year of physical education courses, and 1/2 a year of health education in order to graduate. Students are required to take at least 6 courses every semester and may take as many as 8.

The school offers numerous courses in technology and the fine arts including web page design, typing, digital design, drafting, motion picture production, woods, boat building, metal working, art fundamentals, ceramics, advanced ceramics, photography, painting and drawing, illustration and design, advanced art studio, and advanced photography. The school also has an award-winning Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, 3 large Jazz Ensembles and 3 Jazz Combos, a Concert Choir, a Select Choir, and a Treble Choir.

According to the high school guidance office over 90% of students' parents are college graduates and more than half hold at least one advanced degree.

Athletics

70% of Cape Elizabeth High Schools students participate in the athletic programFact|date=May 2007; comprised of 36 teams. Activities include: Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball, Football, Swimming, Diving, Indoor Track, Nordic Skiing, Lacrosse, Golf, Tennis, Track, Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, Baseball, Softball, and Sailing. Over the past 15 years CEHS has won many titles in the state of Maine,Fact|date=May 2007 teams from all sports in which students currently participate have won at least one state championship except downhill skiing and girls' lacrosse. Cape Elizabeth High School's best athlete was Joan Benoit who won the 1984 Olympic marathon and two Boston marathons along with numerous other prestigious races. [Menendez, Jenn. Staff and building

There are 63 professional staff members; 71% have advanced degrees. Cape Elizabeth High School has a theater in the auditorium. The campus has six tennis courts, a baseball field, a softball field, a recently resurfaced six-lane track, a multi-purpose lighted turf field, and two other multi-purpose fields. There are several other fields available for students use in the town including those at the gull crest area and a softball field and a soccer field at Fort Williams Park. The gull crest area also will soon open five kilometers of multi-purpose 12-15 foot wide multi-purpose trails.
