József Szoboszló

József Szoboszló

József Szoboszló (born March 26, 1817 in Eger, died July 25, 1881 in Vienna) was a Hungarian mathematician and politician; he was a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, professor at the universities of Szeged, Pécs, and at the Vienna University of Technology. Szoboszló worked mainly on infinite series, topology and functional calculus.

Between 1864 and 1870 Szoboszló was also a member of the Hungarian Parliament, representing the Hungarian National Party. He strongly opposed giving the autonomy to the Kingdom of Croatia in 1868.

Szoboszló died of tuberculosis in his flat in Vienna, shortly after being nominated professor at the Vienna University of Technology.
