Qualters Middle School

Qualters Middle School or QMS is a grade 6-8 middle school located at 240 East Street in Mansfield, Massachusetts. The principal is Ms. Mary Ellen Mega. QMS is divided into four different "teams" by grade. Each team has a color for a name and four to five teachers with a 20 to 26 person class size.

In the 6th grade, the teams are as follows: Purple, Navy, Yellow, and Orange. In 7th grade: Aqua, Blue, Red, and Gold. And in 8th grade: Bronze, Silver, Green, and White. Originally, there were only 3 teams per grade. Navy, Aqua, and Silver were added on in 2003.

Each grade teaches the primary academic subjects, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts. At the end of 6th grade, the student is given the choice of which language they would like to take in 7th grade, between French or Spanish, and follow up into 8th grade. 6th graders take a full term of one language, and then another full term of the next, to give them a taste of both languages.

School starts at 7:25, and lets out and 1:49. First lunch starts at 10:45, second at 11:10, third at 11:34, and fourth at 11:56. First lunch consists with most of the 6th graders, second with the Bronze and Silver teams with the rest of the 6th graders, third lunch with the Green and White teams, and one 7th grade team, and fourth is the remaining 7th grade teams.

In 6th grade, the sutdent will take two specials per day, each in periods 3 and 4. Some specials, such as Current Events, Health, and Creative Art are abandoned once the 6th grader proceeds to 7th grade. The specials taken for all three years are Phys. Ed(6th Grade: Mr. Pic and Mr. Schmidt, 7th and 8th: Mr. Pic and Mrs. Harding (Tsiang), Music(Sklar), Theater(Strunin), Computers(Shultz), Tech Ed(O'Leary), Foods(Cinelli), and Art(Mehigan).

In 7th grade, specials are taken in periods 6 and 7. In 8th grade, specials are taken in periods 1 and 2.
