Alecia McKenzie

Alecia McKenzie is a Jamaican author.

Early life

Born in Jamaica, she has lived in the United States, Belgium, England and Singapore, and has studied at Alpha Academy, Kingston, Troy University, Alabama, and Columbia University, New York, focusing on languages, art and journalism.

Writing career

In 1992, her first collection of short stories, "Satellite City" was published by Longman. Her second book, "When the Rain Stopped in Natland", also published by Longman in 1995, was a novella for young readers, and has been included on the literacy program in several schools.Fact|date=August 2007

That was followed by a story for teenagers, "Doctor's Orders", published by Heinemann in 2005. It was part-adventure, part-detective story, with mostly teenage characters, set in the Caribbean.

Her latest book, "Stories from Yard", published by Peepal Tree Press in 2005 was a collection of short stories.
