- Arab baths in Palma de Mallorca
The Arab Baths are one of the few monuments of the Muslim architecture, that have been conserved in Majorca and the only building in Palma dating back to the Arab settlement.
The baths were constructed in the XI. century, possibly as part of the palace of a Muslim nobleman and are conserved almost without no type of restorations.
Today only the central room, destined to hot baths and another annexed room of rectangular shape are conserved.
The twelve columns and the arcs of horseshoe of the square central room support a cupola done of bricks with diverse round openings. The capitals of the columns are of great stylistic diversity. Their construction materials probably came from other buildings. The room, - used for the hot bath - has a double ground with hollows around in which hot water and steam circulated.
The Arab Baths are located in the gardens of Cán Fontirroig , Cán Serra 7. Open April to November from 9:30 to 20:00 h, and December to March from 9:30 to 19:00 h. Entrance fee: €1,50 adults and free for children.
The two rooms of the baths and the small courtyard are open to ten people at a time.
