Mary J. King

Mary J. King, D.M. (born November 22, 1975 in Lubbock, Texas) is a composer of contemporary music and an Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Composition at California Baptist University in Riverside, California. She earned her Doctorate in Music Composition at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Her music has been featured nationally and internationally at new music festivals such as the June in Buffalo festival (NY), the Look and Listen New Music and Art Festival (NY), the Bowling Green New Music and Art Festival (OH), and the Hamburger Klangwerktage new music festival (Ger). King has received awards from the International Alliance for Women in Music and the National Association of Composers USA and her music has been performed by the Oklahoma City Symphony, Cleveland Chamber Symphony, eighth blackbird, Patricia Spencer, and John Sampen among others. She has studied with Jay Alan Yim, Augusta Read Thomas, Marilyn Shrude, Mikel Kuehn, and Roque Cordero.
