The Torrance Police Department is the police department serving Torrance, California.

The department employs 240 sworn officers and 100 civilians. The department is the largest law enforcement agency in South Bay, and is one of the largest police departments in Los Angeles County.

The Chief of Police has been John J. Neu since October 2006.

Overview

The Torrance Police Department has jurisdiction in the city limits of Torrance. Other sections with a "Torrance, CA" address are served by either LAPD (Harbor Gateway) or the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (unincorporated area adjacent to the 110 freeway; ZIP code 90502). The Department patrols an approximate one mile (1.6 km) area of Torrance Beach.

Recent News

Torrance Police Officer Steve Kroesen, a five year veteran of the department, was diagnosed with cancer in 2007. In support, about 100 Torrance police officers shaved their heads at a barbecue fundraising event. Officer Kroesen has since recovered and returned to duty. Recruitment

The Torrance Police Department has some of the best paid police officers in Los Angeles County. Their recruitment posters ask "What did you do TODAY?"

The salaries for the officer levels are as follows:

Level 4 Recruit Salary - $62,496
Level 5 New Officer Salary (after Academy training) - $65,616
Level A Top Step Senior Officer - $80,520
Additional 10% for Officer w/25 years of TPD Service (Longevity Step) $88,572

The department primarily utilizes the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Academy (STARS Center) (18 weeks) for training purposes.
