Dabboo Ratnani is a leading Indian fashion photographer,[1] known for his annual calendar which has become a highly notable showbiz event in India since its first publication in 1999.[2][3] He is the cover photographer for all leading magazines like Cosmopolitan, Filmfare, Hi Blitz, Ok India, Elle, Verve, Femina, The Man and Better Homes and Gardens.[4] In 2006, he was in the jury for the Miss India contest.[5]

Biography

Born on December 24, he practiced his skill as a young man in Mumbai training together with Sumeet Chopra.[6] He has been working independently since 1994.Since 2005 he is into digital photography using an Hasselblad H1 with the Phase 1 P45+ 39 megapixel camera & his favorite is Canon EOS 1DS Mark III

Work

Riya Sen, one of the celebrity besides Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapor to be featured five consecutive times (2003–07), in one of the known pages of Ratnani's trendsetting calendar's 2004 edition.[7][8]

Ratnani's best known work is his annual calendar.[6] He has helped create a trend of collectible limited edition celebrity calendars in India, after the fashion of the Pirelli Calendar. He is one of a number of photographers with trademark calendars widely covered in the media.[9] Over the years top Bollywood stars has appeared on his calendar. Every year the launch of the calendar becomes a major event featuring top celebrities, 24 of them for each year.[10]
