Henry S. Metz, MD, MBA, is an American
pediatric ophthalmologist who is the currentCEO of theSmith-Kettlewell Institute inSan Francisco . Much of his early research concerned eye movements andstrabismus , includingsaccadic velocity measurements and use ofbotulinum toxin .Education and career
After completed his undergraduate degree from
Columbia College , Metz received hismedical degree fromSUNY andMBA from theUniversity of Rochester . He did a medical internship at theJewish Hospital of Brooklyn , followed by anophthalmology residency at theUniversity of Rochester School of Medicine and strabismus fellowship at theSmith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute . His fellowship preceptor was the renowned strabismologistArthur Jampolsky . During the late 1990s Metz maintained private practice in Rochester and at The Eye Specialists Center inIllinois , and served as Visiting Professor at theThe University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary until his appointment at Smith-Kettlewell in 2003.Honors and offices held
