NCode (company)

NCode (company)

nCode was a company providing engineering solutions that was acquired by German data acquisition company HBM in August 2008. The original head office was in Sheffield, UK and then in Southfield, Michigan, with both locations now used by the new nCode division of HBM. The company was founded in 1982 and for many years has been a specialist provider of software for metal fatigue analysis. In recent years the company diversified to produce more general engineering software, including signal processing and data management, and, through acquisition, hardware for recording engineering data. It also has a specialist materials testing division and can offer consultancy services for a wide range of durability related problems.

The company logo was formed from the hysteresis loop derived from the relationship between stress and strain when metal is cycled under strain control. This is a key part of understanding material behaviour under cyclic loading. The company was originally meant to be called nPrime (a local strain method material property), but Prime Computer objected to the name so it was changed to nCode.

Products

nSoft

nSoft is a software product for general purpose signal processing, data visualisation and metal fatigue analysis. It was launched in 1986.

GlyphWorks

GlyphWorks is a software product for general purpose signal processing, data visualisation and metal fatigue analysis. It was launched in 2003.

DesignLife

DesignLife is a software product for estimating fatigue life based on finite element calculations. It was launched in 2005 and was based on prior technology in the product FE-Fatigue.

Automation

nCode Automation is a web-based software product for storing, analysing and reporting on test data gathered over a period of time. It was introduced as a data management system called "Library" in 2003 and was renamed to Automation in 2007. The analysis is performed with GlyphWorks and the architecture is based on Java EE technology.

nCode CDS

nCode CDS is a cost-effective, leased licensing system for access to GlyphWorks, DesignLife, and Automation PE software. It allows test and CAE engineers to have flexible access to the unique range of nCode products.

International support

The company operates sales and support offices for nCode products in the United States (Southfield, Michigan),United Kingdom (Rotherham) France, Germany, Japan and China. It has representatives in many other countries.

Partners

nCode produced joint products in the area of Computer Aided Engineering for many years with MSC Software but the original partnership ended in 2007. MSC however continues to use the nCode technology within its products. These products have linked together the results of finite element analysis with fatigue calculations, allowing a component designer to estimate the fatigue life of the component without making a prototype. nCode's CAE partners now include Altair Engineering and ANSYS.
