Donald Dewar (Canadian politician)

Donald Dewar is a farmer and politician in Manitoba, Canada. In the federal election of 2004, he ran as a Liberal in the rural Manitoba riding of Dauphin-Swan River.

Dewar received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba in 1972. Along with his son, he owns and operates "Dewar Seed Farms" in Dauphin, Manitoba, processing seed on a 2,700 family farm. He has served as President of "Manitoba Seed Growers", and was a board member of the national "Canadian Seed Growers Association" from 1984 to 1991. He is also a member of the "Manitoba Institute of Agrologists", and a prominent figure in Dauphin's Anglican church. In 2001, he spoke out against a federal bill which would have forced the labelling of genetically-modified foods. More recently, he has been among the leading supporters of a hemp factory in the Dauphin community.

Dauphin-Swan River was not targeted by the Liberals as winnable, and Dewar received only 6807 votes (about 20% of the total cast in the riding), placing third. The riding was won by Inky Mark of the Conservative Party of Canada.
