VisionIntoArt is a New York City-based performance art collective. Collaborating across forms and cultures, VisionIntoArt creates original multimedia works drawing on current event, inspiration, and imagination. VisionIntoArt (VIA) presents interdisciplinary, thematic performances driven by newly commissioned music, theater, movement, film, and spoken word.

History

VisionIntoArt was founded in 1999, when two Juilliard students, Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum and Paola Prestini saw the need to make and perform art that is meaningful and relevant to culturally diverse audiences. Paola Prestini, composer and founder of VIA, brought together composers, artists, filmmakers, and dancers to create multi-disciplinary performances that investigate world culture as it relates to American democratic society.

VIA’s first performance was in a dance studio at Juilliard in 1998 when a group of dancers, musicians, actors, and filmmakers had a vision to create something artistically unique that was relevant to today’s multicultural society. Since then, VIA has performed at Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Whitney Museum, and at international festivals. In addition, they have had educational residencies with diverse organizations such as the EtnaFest in Sicily, Presbyterian University, Dickinson College and the New York Philharmonic. VIA is a medium-sized ensemble of 3 composers, 6 instrumentalists, an actor, a poet, and a singer. Also essential to the collective is its theatrical team including a lighting designer, video artist, and sound designer. The VIA group is unique in its commitment to quality art that embraces all art forms and cultures. As a result of its unique niche in the performing arts combined with high-quality performances, VisionIntoArt has continued to perform to near-capacity audiences since its inception. VIA has won numerous awards and grants from NYSCA, LMCC, the Nathan Cummings Foundation, the Council on Foundations, and the American Music Center.

" …a theater of spectacle and sensation...as surprising a moment as any I've ever seen."
—Steve Smith, TimeOut NY
"Ten artists on the theater box: musicians, actors, poets and technicians of light and sound who directly carry from the Great Apple a multimedia travel, fruit of the typical American culture melting pot."
