It's 1907 in an South American country. Maria II (Brigitte Bardot), the daughter of an Irish terrorist, meets Maria I (Jeanne Moureau),the singer of a circus. After her father dies, Maria II decides to stay with the circus and tour with them. On her debut as a singer, she accidentaly invents striptease, an action that makes the circus achieve great fame. Shortly after they meet Florès (George Hamilton), a socialist revolutionary. He invites them to join his cause, a revolution against El Dictador (José Ángel Espinoza), but shortly after Florès dies after being shot. He makes them promise him to finish his cause and both agree, getting into trouble with the local church and the authorities.

-Florès surname is adapted to french grammar as its original spanish form is "Flores"

Awards
Both Moureau and Bardot were nominated for Best Foreign Actress at the 1967
