Mission

"We at Coldwater High School, in partnership with the community and parents, will provide a safe, orderly, and caring academic environment which assures an equal opportunity for quality education. We are committed to the principle that all students can learn and become productive, responsible members of society."

Student organizations

Student organizations are groups that receive no funding from the school and are led by members of the student body. Student organizations are established through application to the Coldwater High School principal and exist for the purpose of utilizing the school building for meetings without incurring service charges. As of the 2006-2007 school year, student organizations at Coldwater High School include Youth for Social & Economic Justice, Young Republicans, Gay/Straight Alliance, and CHS Chess Organization.

Youth for Social and Economic Justice

Shortened as YSEJ (pronounced by most as "why-sedge"), Youth for Social and Economic Justice began as the Young Democrats in 2004 but changed its name in 2006. "In the continued pursuit of social and economic justice, our mission is to foster an environment in which the students of Coldwater High School can be educated on the current political and social issues and engage in all forms of debate and points of view." YSEJ does not discriminate on the basis of race/color, sex, gender identity, gender expression, physical or mental disability, nationality, national origin, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, or political affiliation. In the 2006/2007 school year YSEJ successfully campaigned for the reelection of US Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Gov. Jennifer Granholm, met with US Sen. Carl Levin, held a "Get Out the Vote" rally in downtown Coldwater, initiated a necessities drive called "Share the Love," visited Lansing, MI to meet with state representatives, and lobbied the local school board to vote no on the privatization of Coldwater Community Schools' support staff.

Young Republicans

Young Republicans, also referred to as the Young Repubs, began in 2004 prompted by the recent formation of the Young Democrats (later YSEJ). The Young Republicans co-hosted a presidential debate with the Young Democrats in Nov. 2004 and contributed to the success of George W. Bush in the school-wide election. Since 2004 Young Republicans have remained relatively inactive, meeting periodically for intra-group activities.

Gay/Straight Alliance

Also known as the GSA, the Gay/Straight Alliance seeks to educate students at CHS on the harmful effects of discrimination against members of the queer (LGBT community). In 2005 the GSA participated in the Day of Silence, a day where GSA members remained silent to signify the silencing of LGBT students that occurs every day.

Academic Accolades

The Coldwater High School Mock Trial Team won the 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 National Mock Trial Championships. In 2004 and 2005 the team garnered 2nd place at nationals, and in 2006 the team placed 3rd in the nation. In 2007 the team once again qualified for the American Bar Association National Mock Trial Championship after having won the State Mock Trial Championship.

The Coldwater High School Choirs and Bands have also had a history of excellence, garnering Division 1 ratings at District and State Choral Festivals, as well as earning "Superior" ratings at festivals of music in Toronto (2005) and New York (2007).

Athletics

Coldwater High School mascot is the cardinal. They participate in the Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference (SMAC) East Division and MHSAA sponsored tournaments, in which they are a Class B school. Coldwater's main rival is Sturgis, who also participates in the SMAC East. Other schools in the East Division are Lakeview, Harper Creek, and Marshall.
