Gerald Francis O'Keefe

Gerald Francis O'Keefe (March 30, 1918-April 12, 2000) was a Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Davenport from 1967 until his retirement in 1993.

A native of Saint Paul, Minnesota, O'Keefe was first ordained a priest on January 29, 1994 in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. On May 5, 1961 he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese and Titular Bishop of Candyba. He was consecrated on July 2, 1961.

On October 20, 1966 he was appointed the Bishop of the Diocese of Davenport. He was installed on January 4, 1967, and served the Davenport Diocese until his retirement on November 12, 1993. [http://www.catholic-hierarchy.org/bishop/bokeefe.html]

The O'Keefe Library at Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa was named in his honor. His name was removed from the library on August 3, 2007 in response to a request from a victim of clergy sexual abuse. [http://www.qctimes.com/articles/2007/08/03/news/local/doc46b376b850a89926826116.txt]
