1855 Bursa earthquake

The 1855 Bursa earthquake occurred on 28 February [ [http://www.koeri.boun.edu.tr/sismo/Depremler/thistoric.htm Boğaziçi Üniversitesi - Kandilli Rasathanesi ve Deprem Araştırma Enstitüsü ] ] , with an officially recorded magnitude of 7.5 [ [http://www.bsm.gov.tr/tezakir.htm Bursa Sağlık Müdürlüğü - Bursa ve Sağlık ] ] . And also a devastating precursor quake that took place in Kemalpaşa, a town of Bursa, Turkey caused a severe destruction in all over Bursa and other neighboring cities [ [http://www.bursa.gov.tr/deprem/deprem04.htm T.C. Bursa Valiliği ] ] . and 300 people died and thousands of homes and workplaces were wrecked, and some of the historical monuments and buildings including mosques were collapsed. Subsequently, fire had spread out in the city, which sped up the death toll.

On 11 April, 1855 [ [http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/eq_depot/1999/eq_990817/eq_list.html USGS Earthquake Hazards Program: Earthquake Lists: TURKEY ] ] , an aftershock of the 28 February earthquake was recorded officially as 7.0 magnitude. This aftershock affected the region from Gemlik to Mudanya. 1,300 people were dead.
