Celebrity Time

Celebrity Time

"Celebrity Time" was an early quiz and audience participation television series which aired in the early days of television.

The show was first broadcast on local stations in 1948, then moved to the CBS network on January 23, 1949. In March of that year, it moved to ABC, and then back to CBS in April of 1950, where it remained until September of 1952.

The show underwent several different names, including "The Eyes Have It", "Stop, Look and Listen", "Riddle Me This", "Goodrich Celebrity Time" and finally "Celebrity Time". It also went through several hosts, including Douglas Edwards, Paul Gallico and Conrad Nagel.

The show began as a battle of the sexes between teams made up of audience and celebrity panelists, who would be asked questions which involved such topics as guessing names from the news, to identifying film clips. Eventually, the show segued into a more general variety and performance show. In its later years, it was strictly celebrity variety show.

Panelists included, at various times, Sir Thomas Beecham, Slapsie Maxie Rosenbloom, John Daly, Ilka Chase, Peggy Ann Garner, Kitty Carlisle, Boris Karloff, Kyle MacDonnell, Herman Hickman, Martha Wright, Mary McCarty and Jane Wilson.
