Margot, Lady Warner (née Worthington) was a fictional character in the long running New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street. She was portrayed by Glynis McNicoll for multiple recurring stints throughout the nineties and again by Dinal Priestley in 2003 for the characters death.

Character

Overview

She was married to Sir Bruce Warner, has two sons, Dr. Chris Warner and Guy Warner, and one daughter, Amanda Warner. Margot had reluctantly raised Guy as her own son, but this wasn't true as Sir Bruce had had an affair and Guy was the result, which Sir Bruce revealed to his sons.

Casting

Margot was originally played by Glynis McNicoll but upon her refusal to return for the characters death in 2003, the role was recast with Dinah Priestley assuming the role[1] who had previously portrayed Marion Seymour in 1997.[2]

Storylines

1992-2003

In 1992 Margot and her husband Bruce visit son Chris at his job working in the Shortland Street clinic and Bruce attempts to buy the hospital, to no success. In 1993 Margot was shocked to learn her disabled daughter she thought had died at birth, Amanda Warner was still alive and living under care. Margot felt upset at Bruce's treachery and ensured Amanda got the best treatment possible. Later in the year, feeling her husband Bruce was more focused on work than her, Margot developed an a reliance on alcohol. Son's Chris and Guy convinced her to start attending alcoholic meetings where she met Michael McKenna and quickly formed a close friendship. Bruce suspected she was having an affair and tried his best to win his wife back.

In 1994 Margot returned to celebrate Guy's birthday and later voiced her disapproval of Chris' and Rebecca's interracial relationship. She was also disgusted at her husband's love for Grace Kwan however continued to insist she loved him. Bruce died in 1995 and Margot admitted that Guy was not her son rather the son of Chris' nanny who she willingly adopted. In 1996 Margot attended Chris' wedding to Tiffany Pratt and farewelled her son's and granddaughter as they left the country. She returned for several episodes in 1997.

Margot returned in 2003, revealed she had cancer and met her grandson Harry however was disgusted to learn his mother was Toni but after speaking to Toni's brother Dom, Margot opened up to Toni. Margot spent a lot of time with Dom and soon she succumbed to her illness. Chris later discovered that Dom was likely a product of an affair Bruce had and Margot had been scared Toni was the result.
