"Ta Nea Tis Megalopouleos" (Greek:Τα Νέα Της Μεγαλουπόλεως, English: Megalopolis News) is a monthly newspaper published in Athens, Greece and produces local news for Megalopolis. It is one of the headquarters situated outside of Megalopolis and it has editors primarily from that region in southwestern Arcadia. The newspaper was founded in 1951 and marked its 50th anniversary in 2001 and its 55th in 2006. It has published around 770 monthly editions.

Ta Nea Tis Megalopoleos features only news and sports and weather in unassorted sections from Megalopolis and southwestern Arcadia. It had covered events held at the ancient theatre (see the Megalopolis Ancient Theater), pavement and creation of roads in the 1950s and the 1960s, the earthquake that struck in 1965, the opening of its transmission plant (see the Megalopolis Power Plant) in 1970, the Megalopolis By-Pass and the GR-7/E65 superhighway extension as well as its tunnel and the Megalopolis Bypass. It even had published population data from its villages and settlements around the area.

Location history

It first had its headquarters at 6 Metaxa Street in Megalopolis. It was later moved to Athens and was located at 10 Nikitara Street. It relocated itself to a suburb named Nea Smyrni at 20 Selefkias Street where it presently publishes.

History

The newspaper was first published on June 20, 1951 after World War II and the Greek Civil War. It celebrated its 5th anniversary in 1956, 10th anniversary in 1961, 25th anniversary in 1976, 50th anniversary in 2001 and recently 55th anniversary in 2006, the 55th anniversary featured a celebration on July 29, 2006 at "Archontiko Isari" at Isari in southwestern Arcadia. The newspaper has published a book called "Ta Thavmasta Kai Ta Mystiria Tou Lykaio Orous", a book dedicated to the mysteries of Lykaio mountains published in 2001.
