Arc Trial

Arc Trial

: "This article is about a horse race at Newbury - for details of the Arc Trials at Longchamp, see Prix Niel, Prix Foy and Prix Vermeille." ----The Arc Trial is a Group 3 flat horse race in the United Kingdom open to thoroughbreds which are three-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 1 mile 3 furlongs and 5 yards (2,217 metres) at Newbury Racecourse, and it takes place annually in September.

It was first run in 1997 as a Listed race, and it was upgraded to Group 3 status in 2004. It is presently sponsored by the Dubai Duty Free Company.

The title "Arc Trial" is often considered to be a misnomer, as the race rarely includes contenders for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Of the few runners to subsequently contest the "Arc" in the same year, the best placing has been seventh. This was achieved in 1997 by Swain, who had earlier finished a close third in this race.
