The Tempe train station is a former station served by Amtrak's "Sunset Limited" and "Texas Eagle" trains. Amtrak service to this station was discontinued in June 1996.

History

The Southern Pacific Railroad built the depot in 1924. The city purchased the building and in 1987 renovated it; the building now houses Macayo's Depot Cantina, a renowned Mexican restaurant. The "Sunset Limited" and "Texas Eagle" served this location from the 1987 renovation until 3 June 1996. The Valley Metro light rail line, slated to open in late 2008, will serve a new station one block east of the depot.
