*Oscar - a Penguin in the Comic Strip "Arctic Circle". He gets peacock feathers implanted on his head in order to be more attractive to females.
* "Penny and Poppy Penguin," stereotypical penguins misused by Bill in the Cat in his bigoted attacks on penguins in Bloom County.
* Pokey the Penguin, a penguin living in the Arctic Circle, from the webcomic of the same name.
* Sparky the Wonder Penguin. One of the main characters in the satirical comic strip "This Modern World" by Tom Tomorrow.
* "Les indégivrables", a French political cartoon with an all-penguin cast by Xavier Gorce, appearing in the online edition of "Le Monde"
* In a 1954 Uncle Scrooge adventure by Carl Barks, a penguin kept trying to hatch a ball of Bombastium, a rare and valuable mineral. This allowed Scrooge and his nephews to find the Bombastium when it would otherwise have been lost. In gratitude, McDuck kept the penguin well-supplied with penguin eggs. One need not assume this penguin is a female. Among the Emperor penguins, it is the male who hatches the eggs. In other species, the genders take turns.

* Bibounde - a baby Emperor Penguin, the title character of a children's book by Michel Gay (French creator of children's books).

* Mr. Pin, a penguin detective, born in Antarctica but now living and working in Chicago, in the children's novel "The Mysterious Cases of Mr. Pin", by Mary Elise Monsell, illustrated by Eileen Christelow. Mr. Pin is a Rockhopper Penguin.
* "Mr. Popper's Penguins".
* "Cuddly Dudley", the protagonist of a picture book by Lord Johann Edvard Spiegelbreeneyer.
* Misha, the penguin adopted by the protagonist, Viktor Alekseyevich Zolotaryov in the 1996 Andrey Kurkov novel, Death and the Penguin.
* The Penguins of Penguin Island, a classic novel by Anatole France. They are baptized by a nearsighted old missionary, and then transformed into human beings - thus ending their peace and happiness.
* Tacky. The hero of a series of children's books written by Helen Lester and illustrated by Lynn Munsinger, including "Tacky the Penguin" (1988), "Three Cheers for Tacky" (1994), and "Tacky and the Emperor" (2000). Tacky is "an odd bird, but a very nice bird to have around." His friends are Goodly, Lovely, Angel, Neatly and Perfect. They love Tacky because he keeps saving the day - not in spite of his eccentricities and oddities, but "because" of them.

* Peris der penguin, the baby penguin from Evert im zoo and Evert besucht Auswitch.
* Tango, and her adoptive male guardians Roy and Silo, in the book "And Tango Makes Three". They are slightly anthropomorphised, slightly fictionalised Chinstrap penguins.
* Betty and Porkey, Tango's biological parents.

Other famous penguins

* The Penguin - One of Batman's most famous adversaries. (Not really a penguin, but a human who has physical penguin-like features. His real name is Oswald Cobblepot.) He dies in the movie "Batman Returns". However, in the canon continuity of the comic books, he has reformed (sort of), and he and Batman have progressed from being mortal enemies to a tolerable "modus vivendi"
* "The Penguin" is the irreverent but affectionate nickname given by the Blues Brothers to the nun who runs the orphanage where they were raised. It is derived from her black and white habit.
* Diego the Penguin. Born in Lithuania but adopted by members of the Tartan Army. Now official mascot of the Diego Tartan Army. [http://www.diegotartanarmy.com link title]
* Pete and Penny Penguin - The primary and secondary (respectively) mascots of Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio.
