Earl Owensby Studios

Independent film-maker Earl Owensby, created a Shelby, North Carolina motion picture studio active in the 70's and 80's. E.O. Productions made dozens of low-budget , action movies, many of which originally played on outdoor drive-in theaters throughout the South. Television producer Ray Livesay, Director/NYU Film professor Tierry Pathe, Ginger and Terri Alden, as well as numerous other actors first worked or honed their skills in Owensby productions.

"The Abyss" was shot at E.O. Productions in an abandoned nuclear power plant containment vessel creating at that time, the word's largest underwater soundstage.
