Kandhola

Kandhola

Located next to the historic township of Chamkaur, Kandhola traces its history back to the era of S. Dayal Singh Virk grand

son of S. Khushal Singh Virk and son of S. Budh Singh Virk. This sleepy village is marked by the Kandhola Fort, which is the prominent feauture on the horizon of this historic village and this holds with it a history that speaks for itself about the might and courage of the Singhpuria clan. They won this fort which is the emblem of their victory against the rulers of Sirhind which left them the much revered Kandhola Fort(originally built by the Lodhis) and the Kandhola estate. The Kandhola Fort which to this day still stands tall among the many monuments scattered around the historic township of Chamkaur Sahib. The Kandhola Fort was passed on from one generation to another but on its way the Fort started to lose its much revered form and its mighty shape. It stands tall but is more like a shadow from the yesteryears. Like the light from a burning oil lamp, the Kandhola Fort is also dying out with the passage of time. An important piece of history is seeming to be lost in the rapids of time. The present owners of the estate (S.Gurjitinder Singh Virk, S.Hardeepinder Singh Virk and S.Baleshwar Singh Virk) of Kandhola are now trying to restore their rich heritage. The Kandhola Fort has now a faint hope of regaining its rich past. Like many old structures this Fort too has many a tales attached to it which thrill and chill at the same time!
