New York State Route 12C was a state highway located in Oneida County, New York. A spur route of NY 12, it was assigned in 1930 and ran from NY 12, among other routes, in downtown Utica to NY 12 and NY 28 in Barneveld. Portions of the route overlapped other routes, including NY 5A, NY 69, and, for a time, NY 365. While NY 12 followed a direct path between Utica and Barneveld, NY 12C veered west to serve Whitesboro, Marcy, and Holland Patent.

NY 12C was removed in 1970 and replaced with various routes, including NY 291.

Route description

NY 12C began at NY 5, NY 8, NY 12, Interstate 790 and NY 5S and followed NY 5A (then also NY 69) westward from Utica as Oriskany Boulevard, toward nearby Yorkville. From there, Oriskany Boulevard headed northeast following NY 69 toward Rome. In Whitestown, NY 12C then turned more northward, following what is now NY 291. Much of NY 291 still bears reference markers for NY 12C. At Stittville, 12C followed what is now NY 365 through the town of Trenton, eventually terminating at the concurrency of NY 12/NY 28 in Barneveld.

History

NY 12 was assigned in 1924 to a direct route between Utica and Barneveld. NY 12C, virtually unchanged from when it was first designated, was removed on January 1, 1970. From Utica to Whitesboro, NY 12C was supplanted by the routes it once overlapped; however, NY 69 was truncated to NY 5A in Yorkville. East of Stittville, NY 12C became part of a re-extended NY 365.
