Bishop of Guildford

Bishop of Guildford

The Bishop of Guildford is the Ordinary of the Church of England Diocese of Guildford in the Province of Canterbury.

The diocese covers the west of the County of Surrey and was created in 1927 under King George V when the Diocese of Winchester was divided. The see is in the town of Guildford where the seat is located at the Cathedral Church of the Holy Spirit which was built as a cathedral 1936 to 1965. The bishop's residence is Willow Grange, Guildford.

Prior to the creation of the Diocese, there was a suffragan bishop of Guildford in the diocese of Winchester.

The current bishop is the Right Reverend Christopher John Hill, the 9th Bishop of Guildford, who signs "+ Christopher Guildford". He is not yet one of the 21 senior bishops (by length of tenure), and so is not entitled to sit in the House of Lords.
