KVMR-FM (89.5 FM) is a progressive, independent radio station founded in 1978 in Nevada City, California. KVMR's coverage from its transmitter on nearby 3000' Banner Mountain includes the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Northern California, as well as the Central Valley region around California's state capital, Sacramento. A translator on Mount Pluto covers much of the Truckee, California area and the northern end of the Lake Tahoe region at (105.1 FM). KVMR's broadcasts are also available 24/7 streaming over the Internet.

Applying the slogan "Music of the World, Voice of the Community," KVMR is a not-for-profit entity operating under the auspices of the Nevada City Broadcast Group. KVMR's broad range of music programming includes many genres not available elsewhere, such as the shows periodically aired by Ric O' Shea, Skip Alen Smith, and Mikail Graham. The station serves its community of listeners with public affairs programming, interesting and educational interviews, local and international news and alternative points of view on profound topics of interest to listeners, including nationally syndicated "Democracy Now!". KVMR has over 150 volunteer broadcasters with wide ranging tastes and expertise, a large cadre of event and office volunteers and a small staff. Funding for KVMR's operation comes from listeners, underwriters, events, and grants.
