Jon Paulien

Jonathan K. Paulien (1949—) is a Seventh-day Adventist theologian specializing in the study of Johannine literature (John and Revelation). He was the professor of New Testament Interpretation at Andrews University. As of 2007, he is dean of the Loma Linda University faculty of religion. He has been considered the leading Adventist scholar on Revelation and other prophetic material in the Bible.

Biography

Paulien has a BA from Atlantic Union College, and an MDiv and PhD from Andrews University. His doctoral thesis, "Decoding Revelation’s Trumpets: Literary Allusions and Interpretation of " was completed in 1987. Prior to his PhD he worked for several years in New York as a church pastor. He was professor of New Testament Interpretation at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University. He spent over two decades at Andrews. [ [http://qod.andrews.edu/presenters.html Presenters :: Questions on Doctrine ] ] On January 1, 2007 he became dean of the Faculty of Religion at Loma Linda University, and it was announced he would be part-time until mid-2007 when his work at Andrews University was complete. Samuele Bacchiocchi has described him as "the leading Adventist authority on the prophetic books of the Bible." He has written about the importance of Christianity in the Western world being relevant to the largely secular Western society. He has written about postmodernism, suggesting it does has some positive aspects from a Christian point of view. He is also involved in dialogue between Christianity and Islam.

He and his wife Pamella have three children. Their names are Tammy, Joel, and Kimberly, the eldest of whom is living with her husband in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
