Wuchao

Wuchao

Wuchao (烏巢), located southeast of Yanjing County, Henan was famous for being the location of the stores for Yuan Shao's army at the battle of Guandu during the Three Kingdoms period of China. The location was revealed to Cao Cao by Xu You, a defector from Yuan Shao's army. It is said that Xu You defected because of Yuan Shao's refusal to heed advice and stubbornness. Cao Cao then used the information to destroy Wu Chao. At the time Wu Chao was being guarded by Chunyu Qiong who was supposedly very fond of wine and drink lots on the night of Cao Cao's attack, which was another factor in its fall. Thus turning the battle in Cao Cao's favour and being the catalyst for the defection of Yuan Shao officer Zhang He and a great demoralisation for Yuan Shao's troop causing defeat.
