"Silent to the Bone" is a young adult novel by E. L. Konigsburg, published in 2000.

Plot

"Silent to the Bone" is written from the point of view of a boy named Connor. In the beginning, Connor's friend Branwell is accused of dropping his baby half-sister Nikki. After this incident Branwell becomes surrounded by a wall of silence that no one is able to break through. Connor knows that there is a reason behind Branwell's silence, and he is sure that Branwell did not hurt Nikki. But Branwell is in a behavioural centre accused of a terrible crime and unable to speak for himself. Connor is the only one who might be able to break through Branwell's wall of silence. But how can he prove Branwell did not commit the unspeakable act of which he is accused when Branwell cannot even speak for himself?
