Club career
Milan
Darmian started playing football with Carcor, an amateur club based in Rescaldina, before joining A.C. Milan's youth system in 2000.[1] He made his first-team debut for the Rossoneri on 28 November 2006, aged only 16, in a Coppa Italia game against Brescia, replacing Kakha Kaladze at half-time.[2] Six months later, on 19 May, he made also his Serie A debut in a match against Udinese, coming off the bench late in the second half.[2]
During the 2007–08 season he made only another appearance in Coppa Italia and none in the league, though he became the leader and captain of the youth team. The following season the 19-year-old defender collected other three league appearances.
Padova
On 17 July 2009, Darmian was loaned to Serie B club Padova until the end of the 2009–10 season.[3] He made his official debut for the club on 28 November, in a home loss against Vicenza.[4] He went on making 20 appearances and scoring one goal, as Padova finished the season in 19th place and subsequently won the relegation play–off against Triestina.
Palermo
On July 11, 2010 it was announced that Matteo Darmian would join Palermo's pre-season training camp in Austria, after Milan and the Sicilians agreed in principle about a transfer move involving him.[5] The move, unveiled as a co-ownership bid, was officially announced by Palermo the next day.[6] The fee was €800,000.[7] He made his debut for the rosanero on 16 September 2010 in a Europa League game against Sparta Prague. Concludes the season with 16 appearances.
Torino
On July 12, 2011 Palermo officially confirmed to have loaned out Darmian to Torino until the end of the 2011–12 Serie B season.[8]
International career
In 2008, Darmian took part at the UEFA European U-19 Championship with the Italy U-19 squad.
On 25 March 2009, he made his debut with the Italy U-21 squad in a friendly match against Austria.
