The National-Panasonic Cup was the Victorian Football League's (VFL) night football competition between 1987 to 1989. It was preceded by the Channel 7/CUB Cup (1987) and was succeeded by the Fosters Cup (1990-1994). [1]
In 1988, during the time of the National-Panasonic Cup, the VFL changed from a mid-week night competition to a pre-season night competition.[2]
Winners
- Melbourne was the inaugural winner of the National-Panasonic Cup, defeating Essendon in the final.[3]
- In 1988, Hawthorn defeated Geelong by two points.
- In 1989, Melbourne won the Cup again, defeating Geelong by seven points.
