The school is over 25 years old and Mrs MS Towndrow is the current head teacher, recently succeeding Mr Dykes. The school focuses on its School of Ambition ethos in teaching, and its close relationship with the community of Barrhead.

The S1-S4 pupils have a set uniform which must be worn by the pupils during school time and also in some extra-curricular events.

The head pupils are decided by 'democratic' vote; any S6 pupil can run an election campaign prior to a ballot vote. All teachers can vote for a male candidate and a female candidate. The male and female candidates with the most votes achieve the titles of head pupils. The votes for session 2008/09 resulted in Calum Cunningham as Head Boy and Emma Quinn as Head Girl.
