The Wiggle

The Wiggle is a famous bike route in San Francisco, California that avoids steep grades. The path follows the route of the old Sans Souci Valley and cuts diagonally across Lower Haight. The Wiggle begins at the Duboce Bikeway on Market Street and then moves in a zig-zag up Steiner, Waller, Pierce, Haight, Scott, and Fell Street to the Panhandle Bikeway through a nearly flat route between several large hills. In this region, many adjacent streets have dramatically sharper grades.

The Wiggle is commonly used by bicyclists travelling between The Mission District, SoMa, The Castro and the Panhandle, Golden Gate Park, The Richmond, or Sunset Districts.

* Westbound: SWaP HiS= Steiner, Waller, Pierce, Haight, Scott

* Eastbound: SHiP WaS = Scott, Haight, Pierce, Waller,Steiner

Transit Connections

Muni trolleys go along Market St. at ground level and underground to points west, east, and south within SF.

BART trains run underground along Market St. as far northeast as Pittsburg, as far southeast as Fremont, and as far South as Milbrae and San Francisco International Airport. Transfers to Caltrain are available at Milbrae station and to Amtrak are available at Richmond or Oakland Coliseum.

The Caltrain station at 4th & Townsend offers trains to San Jose and Gilroy (one way only).

The Transbay Terminal bus station at Fremont & Mission offers express buses to Berkeley, Oakland, Alameda and most other East Bay cities.
