Shalash al-Iraqi

Shalash al-Iraqi

Shalash al-Iraqi is the pseudonym of an essayist and fiction writer from Iraq. He first attracted notice in late 2005, writing an opinion column for the website [http://www.kitabat.com/ Kitabat] , and quickly gained popularity among Iraqi citizens, especially those with Internet access. He writes with a dark, sarcastic sense of humour and is said to evoke the voice of the common Iraqi through ordinary language and idiomatic expressions. Shalash al-Iraqi refuses to align himself with particular political groups, and his writings have widespread appeal, transcending ethnic and sectarian differences to evoke a common Iraqi spirit. He lives in Sadr City.
