cat shark of the familyScyliorhinidae , the only specimen known having been found off the coast ofQueensland on a deepwater plateau at 590 m. Its length is 72 cm. The extremely rare shorttail catshark has a soft flabby body with a velvety skin. It has a long pointed snout, smallgill slits, large triangular anterior nasal flaps, and ridges under the eyes. There are crests of saw-likedenticle s along the top of the tail and also below. The firstdorsal fin is smaller than the second.Coloration is pale yellowish-brown above, lighter below, with all fins having paler margins.
