Tai Solarin University of Education

The Tai Solarin University of Education is the first university of education in Nigeria. It is located in Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

Overview

The school is named after human rights activist Tai Solarin (1922-1994). It is the second university approved in Ogun state, and the 76th approved university in Nigeria.

It was proclaimed a university by the governor of Ogun state, His Excellency Otunba Gbenga Daniel on29 January 2005. The former Tai Solarin College of Education was approved by the Nigerian Universities Commission in 2005 as a university after a thorough analysis and appraisal of its facilities academic brief. Professor Olukayode Oyesiku was its first vice chancellor he succeeded the provost of the then tai solarin college of education( tasce). Dr Philips Olasunkanmi Tella and Yinusa Oyeneye its pro chancellor who was formerly its chairman board of governing council the school has various halls and auditoriums such as the otunba gbenga daniel auditorium, university (e-learning)block it also have four colleges in which the college of education and apllied vocational and technical study (coeavots) is the mother of all faculties the college of social and management studies (cosmas) college of humanities (cohum)and also the college of science and apllied information and technology (cosit)the school is still building so many infrastructures which include the two storey electronic library, kessingnton adebutu building for the technical and vocational studies the various communities around ijagun are ijele, imaweje, odo epo, abapawa, ogbo, okelamuren, ibido-ogbo to mention but few the villages are a bit far from the university the school has no hostels for students presently and the various hostels available are built by majority of the indigenes of the communities tasued is also located at the lagos benin express way [ http://gbengulo4real@yahoo.com ]
