- Jeff Nelsen
Jeff Nelsen (December 1969 - ) is a Canadian
French horn player. He plays with theCanadian Brass , with whom he made several recordings, and has toured extensively in Canada, the US,Asia andEurope . He is currently (2006) sponsored byYamaha and plays a Yamaha 667VSL custom horn. He also lectures on "fearless performing", on which subject he has a book in press.Biography
Nelsen's parents Ron and Diane were both opera singers and his older sisters Lisa and Suzanne play
flute andbassoon respectively. He played with the Montreal, Vancouver and Winnipeg symphony orchestras and had been offered the principal horn position in the Vancouver symphony orchestra when he was invited to join the Canadian Brass in 2000. Since leaving the Canadian Brass in 2004 he has appeared as guest soloist in many concerts and music festivals. He is on the faculty of theIndiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington.One of his hobbies is magic, and he has been known to perform magic tricks during his musical performances.
Family
Jeff's cousin, Hillary Chesher, is also a hornist and lives in Mississauga, Ontario. His other cousin, Paula LaGamba lives in Toronto. They both greatly admire his work.
