- Kisber Felver
The Kisber Felver is a
sport horse breed developed at the former Kisber Stud inHungary , which was started in 1853, primarily breeding Thoroughbreds. Kisber Stud was very successful in this, and was reflected most notably in a mare called Kincsem. Kincsem won an amazing 54 races and was entered inThe Guinness Book of World Records for it. Through a carefully controlled breeding program, a distinct type evolved. The Kisber Felver was bred by crossingThoroughbreds , Furiosos, Trakehners, Arabians and Anglo-Arabians, andSelle Francais . The horses were oftenThoroughbred crosses, and as such contain a high percentage ofThoroughbred blood. The Kisber Felver is a reletively young breed, developed over the past hundred years, and they display good conformation, athletic ability, movement, and a lively temperament. Unfortunately,
World War I andWorld War II nearly wiped them out. In 1945, more than half of the breeding stock were taken as war damage. 150 Kisber Felver horses were imported for the US Remount. Unlike the romantic and yet similar story of theLipizzan er, these horses were sold at public auction in 1947 when the remount disbanded. In 1961, The Dalmand Stud took the remaining horses, and they are still bred there today. The Kisber Felver is a little-known horse, which is a shame considering their merits and worth as competition horses. Only a handful of people understood the true value of these horses and only through their passion do any remain.Kisber Felvers are capable of performing in all modern sport horse disciplines. They stand between 15.2 to 17 hands high and can be any solid color but are often Bay or Chestnut. Accepted crosses: All breeding stallions are inspected and licensed by the breeding committee to be used for reproduction.
